USA Nightlife

Nightclubs
The music in nightclubs is either live bands or, more commonly, a mix of songs played by a DJ through a powerful PA system. Most clubs or club nights cater to certain music genres, such as techno, house music, trance, heavy metal, garage, hip hop, salsa, dancehall, Drum and Bass, Dubstep or soca music. Many clubs also promote playing the Top 40 which has most of the night playing the most broadcast songs.

Food

Staple Food
Most staple foods derive either from cereals such as wheat, barley, rye, maize, or rice, or starchy root vegetables such as potatoes, yams, taro, and cassava. Other staple foods include pulses (dried legumes), sago (derived from the pith of the sago palm tree), and fruits such as breadfruit and plantains.

Traditional Food
Traditional American cuisine uses ingredients such as turkey, white-tailed deer venison, potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn, squash, and maple syrup, indigenous foods employed by American Indians and early European settlers. Slow-cooked pork and beef barbecue, crab cakes, potato chips, and chocolate chip cookies are distinctively American styles.

Shopping
America's best shopping spots are destinations in themselves. They remind us what we miss when shopping online: Personal service, the ability to feel and try on garments before buying, serendipitous unadvertised sales. Since you can't spend all your vacation time shopping, each place below is near a great place to visit.

Places to visit

The Statue of Liberty, New York City
The Statue of Liberty stands out on Liberty Island, a model of serenity and a symbol of that most determinedly American of values: liberty.

The Niagara Falls, New York State
With 168,000 cubic meters of water tumbling over them a minute, the Niagara Falls are quite a sight (and a sound!) For the most dramatic effect, the ‘Maid of the Mist’ boat tour takes visitors right out into the churning waters.

The Grand Canyon, Arizona
The Grand Canyon was gouged out of the earth by the Colorado River some six million years ago. One of the world’s most outstanding sites of natural beauty, there are few landscapes on the plant that can compare with its majestic scale.

Mount Rushmore National Memorial, Keystone, South Dakota
American sights are rarely lacking in scale, and Mt Rushmore’s absolutely no exception. These 18 meter high statues of presidents Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt and Lincoln (carved out of the granite mountainside in 1925) are yet another iconic image of the country.

The White House, Washington, D.C.
Construction of the White House began in the late 18th century. While it may not be the largest, grandest, or even the most beautiful of structures, it’s certainly the most powerful, and, as such, is an absolute must see.
