Many bars and nightclubs offer live rock, pop, blues and jazz, with some notable venues including Foncea and Alexanderplatz jazz club.


Rome is home to many theatres showing a wide variety of productions throughout the year, including some in English. Situated at St Peter's Square, the Ghione Theatre hosts classical plays and concerts. Also known as the Teatro Costanzi, the Teatro Dell'Opera is a prestigious venue for opera and ballet, while an English-speaking theatre troupe called the Miracle Players puts on comic theatre in English at the Forum every summer. Events are massively popular with local people so if you wish to watch a play, it's advised you book early for better seats and definite entry. If you are visiting during the summer months then open air theatres can be found in most city centres. These events are usually free and a great way to entertain the family.

Cinemas in Rome

Cinema makes a popular night out and most towns and cities have at least one cinema. Many Italian made films are shown as well as international blockbusters, but you will require a knowledge of the language to understand most films, although some cinemas do show films in English. The cinemas in Rome have improved enormously during the recent years, with numerous new multiplexes having been built and exisiting cinemas thoroughly renovated. The Museum of National Cinema in Rome offers an enlightening tour on the history of film making in Italy.

Italy is the home of opera music. Opera music was created in Italy in the 17th century by Italian music composer Claudio Monteverdi. Italy also houses some of the best venues for performing opera music in the world. If you appreciate opera and theatre then you shouldn’t miss a night out in the Teatro Massinmo Bellini in Catania. This is one of the biggest opera houses in Europe and is engraved in history and culture.
